Lifeguards
The Seaside Lifeguards are full time, seasonal employees of the city under the direction of the Fire Chief. The Lifeguards operate from roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10 am to 5 pm, seven days a week. They provide surf rescue capabilities and basic first aid. Lifeguards have the following training:
- American Red Cross Lifeguards
- American Heart Association CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer
- American Red Cross First Aid
The Lifeguards operate from a single elevated tower off of the turnaround and utilize signal posts up and down a 3 mile stretch of beach. Two 4x4 pickups and an ATV are used on the beach and all Lifeguards are equipped with a rescue wet suit, board, and fins. Recently put into service is a Zoll AED Plus, and each pickup carries a basic first aid kit.
Our Lifeguards work closely with Fire Department personnel, Seaside police officers, Medix Ambulance EMTs, and the US Coast Guard. Lifeguards are ambassadors of the beach and interact with the public on a daily basis. If you are interested in becoming a Seaside Lifeguard, contact Chief Dale Kamrath at the fire station.
